Petronas and Sauber could stay together in 2010

Malaysian oil firm Petronas could maintain its long-term link with Sauber now that Toyota has withdrawn from F1.
After BMW's decision to abandon F1 and the uncertainties surrounding Sauber's future, some rumors stated that Petronas intended to remain in the category, and to do so was willing to look for another team with which to start a new relationship.

Lotus, owned by Malaysia, was considered the favorite to receive the support of Petronas, and team boss Tony Fernandes himself had confirmed to the New Straits Times newspaper that an initial approach had already taken place.

“It now appears that an announcement from Petronas will be made within the next few days as it becomes clear that Sauber will take the place vacated by Toyota,” a source said.

“If Sauber's return to F1 is certain, as it appears to be, then Petronas won't be going anywhere else.”
