Perez takes Van der Garde's side: "The teams must respect the riders"

Sergio Perez takes Giedo Van der Garde's side. In the classic pre-weekend interviews on Thursday, the Mexican from Force India, upon direct question from journalists, expressed his opinion on the case that is upsetting the current Sauber team line-up. According to the former Mclaren driver, Giedo Van Der Garde is simply asserting his rights and it is therefore right that he gets into the car during the next weekend on Australian soil. The current team member of Vijay Mallya has strongly criticized the way of thinking of the modern teams, stating that the drivers cannot and must not fall into situations of this kind.

Here are the words of Sergio Perez: “Pilots should not be treated this way. Each Scuderia must respect the contract stipulated with its driver: we have our job and we must carry on our career, so we deserve respect and we don't want to end up in situations like this. If there is a contract, willingly or unwillingly, it must be respected. It's not a point that can be discussed."

“Giedo is a classic example of a disrespected driver. We have seen many cases in recent years and this only adds to a long list. It is right that I assert his rights” he concluded.
