Sergio Perez did not suffer any serious injuries in his heavy crash during qualifying in Monaco, his Sauber team confirms this.

The Swiss team said the rookie Mexican driver had a concussion and a bruised thigh, but nothing was broken following checks in hospital and that doctors found no further injuries.

With this news, Perez is likely to be absent from tomorrow's race, although the team has not said anything about his participation in the race.

Sauber added that the reason for the accident should be investigated.

“It was with great relief that the Sauber F1 Team received the news that Sergio Perez has no serious injuries following the accident in the final minutes of the final part of qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix,” Sauber said in a statement .

“Shortly before 15pm Perez crashed into the barrier when exiting the circuit's fast tunnel.

“The 21-year-old Mexican was admitted to Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco, from where the team received further information at 16.25pm: Doctors said Perez suffered a concussion and a bruised thigh, but fortunately nothing broken.”

“We will investigate the cause of the accident and the team will update the media as soon as they have further information.”
