Perez: “Very happy with the great comeback”

The Mexican from Sauber finishes sixth in Hockenheim

Sauber showed excellent pace despite Perez having to battle a tire problem in the first stint of the race
Perez: “Very happy with the great comeback”

The 2012 German GP will be remembered for three things: Fernando Alonso's great victory, the penalties inflicted in qualifying and the race and the great comebacks. Among the protagonists of the last two events is the Mexican of Sauber Sergio Perez: starting 17th after being penalized in qualifying, he finished in sixth place.

“I'm really happy for all of us in the team who recovered after having a bad qualifying”, explained the 21-year-old Latin American. “We showed strong pace in the race. However, my strategy was a bit compromised because I had to make my first pit stop a little earlier than expected. I felt something strange on the left side of the car, maybe it was a puncture, but I don't know what it was yet. This obviously meant we had to extend the middle stint further and I ended up with very worn tyres.".

But for the Mexican the same applies as for teammate Kamui Kobayashi, who finished fifth but who, due to Sebastian Vettel's penalty, finished fourth: with a better qualifying, where would this Sauber have arrived? “The team did a great job today and this will give us a good boost for next week's race in Budapest, where we hope to do better in qualifying”, Perez commented in this regard.
