Perez joins the Ferrari Driver Academy

The Ferrari Driver Academy welcomes a new talent: Sergio Perez, a twenty-year-old from Guadalajara (Mexico), joins the program that Scuderia Ferrari launched at the end of last year, in which six drivers are already participating. The announcement comes a few days after the hiring of Sergio as an official Sauber driver for the 2011 season: the young Mexican driver will thus make his debut in Formula 1 in a Ferrari-powered single-seater.

Born on January 26, 1990, Sergio began his career with single-seaters in the United States, racing in the Skip Barber National Championship. In 2005 he began his adventure in Europe, competing in the German Formula BMW series for two years, before defending the colors of Mexico in the A2007 GP championship in 1. The same year he won the national class of British Formula 3 while in 2008 he won four races in the same series and placed fourth in the overall ranking.

At the end of 2008 the transition to GP2 took place. His list of victories includes four victories, the most prestigious obtained in the feature race in Monte Carlo. Sergio is currently in second place in the 2010 championship standings, with only the Abu Dhabi stage remaining at the end of the season.
