Perez: “I could have done even better than sixth place”

Sauber was among the great protagonists of qualifying for the Spanish GP, taking two drivers into Q3 and only a hydraulic failure in Kamui Kobayashi's car prevented it from fighting with both its standard-bearers for top positions.

“After the free practice sessions I didn't think it would be so easy for me, in qualifying the car went really well and I think the result is what we hoped for and maybe a little better than expected”, explained Sergio Perez, who finished in sixth place. “In fact I can say that the rivals were so close, that a tenth of a second can really make a big difference, and in this regard it is almost frustrating to have finished in sixth place, because a slightly better position was within reach. However, I believe we can have a race performance. everything will depend on tire degradation tomorrow, which is quite high here: I want to do a perfect race and get as many points as possible, or even go home with a nice surprise.", concluded the Mexican.

Kamui Kobayashi finished Q3 in tenth place, unable to lap due to a breakdown at the end of Q2: “We had a good performance in qualifying, and I felt I hadn't extracted the maximum potential from the car in Q1 and Q2. I think we still had room to improve and I think I could fight for a top five position, and that's what I was looking for. But then, after the checkered flag at the end of Q2, I was told on the radio that I had to stop the car due to a hydraulic problem. It's a shame, but in any case the team did an excellent job here and placing two cars in Q3 is really nice: I'm very positive for tomorrow's race.", concluded the Japanese.
