Niki Lauda: “The drivers' championship has not yet been decided. Things can change quickly”

Sebastian Vettel may be in great form and behind the wheel of the fastest car, but the 1 Formula 2012 world championship is not yet decided.

This is the warning from F1 legend, Niki Lauda. Lauda is convinced that although the German has managed to recover the large lead in the championship that Fernando Alonso had and is now the leader of the standings, with only four races to go, the fight is still open.

“At the moment everything is going in Vettel's favour, but it would be premature to celebrate the world champion already,” three-time world champion Lauda told the Osterreich newspaper.

“Not long ago Alonso looked like the sure world champion, but they kicked him out twice. This shows how quickly things can change.”

“So Vettel needs to be careful,” he added.

Romain Grosjean, the French driver for Lotus, responsible for many accidents at the start, thinks that Vettel is now the favourite.

“I always said that Fernando Alonso was the favorite this season,” said Romain, “but I had to change my mind because Sebastian Vettel took a step ahead of everyone.”

“The Red Bulls are almost unbeatable in the race – they are very fast,” added Grosjean. “It will be difficult to beat them before the end of the season.”
