No KERS for Williams at the Australian GP

Sources within Williams have confirmed that the team will not use an energy recovery and reuse system in the opening race of the 2009 season. On the KERS designed by the Grove team, which unlike all the others developed in Formula 1 is based on a mechanical system charged by a flywheel and not on an electrical energy accumulator, rumors have circulated about an alleged delay in the application of the device in a racing context which could last until mid-season.

A spokesperson for Williams, however, clarified to the microphones of Reuters that the situation is not exactly in these terms, admitting however that in Australia we will certainly do without it: "We know for sure that we will end up not using it in the first race of the season, but it is equally true that we will not they are binding programs on its debut. In our opinion, the greatest opportunities for achieving gains in performance currently lie in improved weight distribution, in the balance of the car and in optimizing the set-up for the use of slick tyres."
