Nico Rosberg: “The start was my big chance”

First victory in Monza for Nico Rosberg, the twenty-first of his career and the fiftieth podium for him. The pilot of the Mercedes, started from the front row behind the poleman Lewis Hamilton, made no mistakes at the start, unlike his teammate, and remained in command from the first to the last corner. With seven races to go, Nico is now just two points behind Lewis in the championship standings.

“The start was my big opportunity in the race and it worked like a charm,” he admitted Rosberg at the press conference. “With the softs I started well and they allowed me to win in the end, while the Ferrari we started on the supersoft tyres: the strategy worked best and with the yellow compound I was able to control the pace, and we also had good speed".

“The choir with the fans was fantastic”, commented the German, who on the podium, to win over an audience that was practically all Red and more busy whistling than applauding, involved him in the classic stadium choir. “The Italian audience is the best ever and I really enjoyed it. But I won't repeat myself: it only works here with them."
