V6 engines in F1, Ferrari satisfied

Ferrari is pleased with the World Motorsport Council's decision to ratify the introduction of turbocharged V6 engines in F1 from 2014. The FIA had previously announced the introduction of turbocharged four-cylinder engines for 2013 but opposition from the teams and engine engineers convinced the members of the World Council to accept the F1 Commission's proposal to adopt 6-litre V1.6 engines starting from 2014.

Ferrari was among the teams most against the idea of four cylinders. After the World Council's ratification regarding the V6, however, Ferrari's head of Sports Management, Stefano Domenicali, declared: “This decision is positive for the sport. Now we have the time necessary to prepare for this new project” he explained to the microphones of the SID agency.

Even Renault and Cosworth would now be satisfied with the decision. “It is positive that the compromise reached has been confirmed by the World Motorsport Council,” added Mercedes' Norbert Haug.
