Mosley against Ferrari: “Right of veto used in a mean way”

The relations between the former president of the FIA and the Red have never been idyllic, it is enough to remember Mosley's intentions to reduce the costs of the top category by imposing a spending ceiling for the F1 teams (in 2008 there was talk of 50 million euro per season, a figure much lower than the normal costs of running a team) and the firm opposition of Ferrari, then chaired by Montezemolo, who never accepted cost-saving policies imposed by Place de la Concorde. At the time the battle between Ferrari and the FIA was played out on various fronts, including the bitter controversy over the infamous "double diffuser" which made the sporting fortunes (and not only) of the English Brawn GP.

The recent dispute between some teams (Ferrari and Mercedes above all) and Jean Todt's FIA over a discount for the supply of modern and very expensive Power Units, and the possible introduction of a standard low-cost engine for customer teams that do not can afford the Manufacturers' PUs, seems to have "rekindled" a Max Mosley who intervened in support of the Federation's ideas and accusing Ferrari of short-sightedness.

“F1 has always been a great advertising tool for Ferrari, which should have behaved more generously - attacked Mosley - I believe that in vetoing the reduction of costs for the supply of PUs, the Red Army has demonstrated a certain smallness. If I were them I would have done everything to help Formula 1, a category they have always needed, if I didn't win I would take it out on the engineers, who have all the means to achieve success.".

Mosley, however, seems to forget how much Formula 1 itself has always needed Ferrari, the legendary team present in all editions of the top world motor racing championship.
