Monisha Kalternborn realistic about the future of Sauber: "Impossible to do without sponsored drivers"

In an interview given to the columns of Motorsport, Monisha Kaltenborn explained that given Sauber's economic situation and the team's current position in the constructors' standings of the 2016 world championship, it is impossible to plan a future without 'pay drivers'.

According to the current Team Principal of the Swiss Scuderia, in fact, the team's management is considering a couple of proposals for 2017 and that a decision will be made soon.

At the moment Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson remain the favorites for next year, but the arrival of a rich sponsorship could quickly change the cards on the table.

Precisely in this sense, the leads that lead to Esteban Gutierrez, the current Haas driver and about to leave the team at the end of the season, and Pascal Wehrlein, a German talent who can bring a large economic contribution from Mercedes, must be kept under observation. .

“We are currently evaluating options for 2017, but nothing has been decided yet”, revealed Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn. “Our goal is to confirm Felipe and Marcus, but in our situation it is difficult to make precise hypotheses.”

According to the Indian Manager, in fact, the economic condition of the team does not allow the management to bet on profiles without an economic contribution behind them: “At the moment it is impossible to plan our future without sponsorships brought by the riders and therefore all our decisions will be taken in this direction. In any case, we are confident that we will have a better car next year and more sponsors with us."
