Mercedes, Wolff: “Fierce rivals, we must maintain high concentration”

Toto Wolff continues undaunted to talk about a world championship challenge that seems to exist only in his head, considering the sidereal advantage that Mercedes enjoys in the two classifications. Yet the Brackley team principal asked his men to be careful and be impeccable in view of the Spanish GP, perhaps worried about a few too many alarms regarding reliability.

“It's true that we are at the top of the two rankings by a certain margin and it would be difficult to ask for more – explained Wolff – However it hasn't been all rosy and we have had reliability issues in these races which we need to resolve quickly. Then there's a lot of breathing down our necks from our rivals, who won't stop their chase. We always need to find the right balance between performance and reliability, if we push the limit too far we risk ruining everything. The team works at full speed to gain performance without compromising reliability."
