Mercedes, Wolff defends Hamilton: “A subpar race can happen to anyone”
The Englishman, who made a terrible start, finished the Australian GP in second place
Despite a lackluster performance, Toto Wolff defends Lewis Hamilton. Despite a horrible start - starting from pole, he found himself in sixth position after a few corners - the Englishman managed to move up positions in the standings, finishing the race in second position behind teammate Nico Rosberg.
“I don't think second place is a bad result for Lewis – declared Wolff –. He had good pace throughout the race. Unfortunately the terrible start ruined his performance. A match like this can happen, you don't have to be harsh with him. It was a bad moment, it will pass. The championship has just started".
“We shouldn't be sad for Lewis – added the executive director of the Star – . Today was a great day for our team . First of all, I'm happy for Nico and his victory. He had an excellent GP and ensured our success despite a bad start".
