Mercedes: Wehrlein could run on Grand Prix Fridays in 2015

Pascal Wehrlein could soon take on a test driver role in F1. In September, Mercedes signed the XNUMX-year-old German as its new reserve driver. Since then the driver has regularly lapped the Brackley team's simulator and achieved the best time in the Abu Dhabi tests.

At the wheel of the HWA team's Mercedes, Wehrlein became the youngest winner in the history of the DTM this year, but is now ready to make the leap to F1.

“There are, for sure, not many doors open in Formula 1 to do kilometers behind the wheel of good enough cars,” Toto Wolff explained to Sportwoche.

Wolff is not considering a GP2 seat for Wehrlein but rather "a reserve or test driver role that allows him to ride on Fridays with a smaller team".

Mercedes' customer teams for 2015 will be Force India, Williams and Lotus. Wehrlein said he was ready for the next step: “I think it can help that people like Magnussen or Kvyat arrived in Formula 1 and were immediately fast. I think our generation is capable of being successful and I hope that this trend of young drivers can continue."
