Mercedes, Toto Wolff against the new regulation

The executive director of the Star would leave the current regulatory framework in place

Mercedes, Toto Wolff against the new regulation

At the end of this month, as the president of the Federation Jean Todt has repeatedly reiterated, the new regulation will be ratified and will come into force next year. The new rules will make F1 single-seaters faster (there is talk of an improvement of around 5 seconds per lap) and equipped with greater aerodynamic load.

According to Toto Wolff, the premier class of motorsport could very well do without these innovations because in this first part of 2016 the gap between Mercedes and Ferrari has narrowed compared to the past: “ This will be an important week for our category – declared the executive director of the Star –  with the final meeting of the Strategy Group to define the rules for 2017".

"Though – continued Wolff – after the first three race weekends we were able to see that the performances provided by Mercedes and Ferrari gave rise to an interesting duel. I don't understand why we need to change a regulatory framework that works so well".
