In Jerez, on the occasion of the presentation of the new W06 Hybrid, Mercedes denied the rumors of using the 2014 version of the power unit in the first races of the new season, adding that the 2015 specification will already be used in these pre-season tests.
The head of the German team's engines, Andy Cowell, reiterated this: “I can assure you that we will have the 2015 engine from the first tests. We have incorporated many new ideas in all areas from internal combustion to energy conversion. After the 12 days of testing we will decide what is reliable to bring to the start of the season in Melbourne.”
Finally, Cowell added: “Our aim is to make the best use of the engine as soon as possible.”
