Mercedes, Paddy Lowe: “We are working to improve the sound of the power units”

With the advent of power units in F1, the sound of the V6s is less high-pitched than that of the V8s. Even if in this latest season the single-seaters are noisier than the previous ones. Some solutions have been tried in the recent past (such as the "trumpet" used by Mercedes in the Montmelò tests in May 2014) but without luck. Star itself, through its technical director Paddy Lowe, is committed to developing a solution aimed at increasing the volume of turbochargers.

“We can increase the volume of the current thrusters, which for me – Lowe said – it's not strong enough yet. But this year we have taken an important step in this direction. We are working on some ideas that should allow us to significantly improve the volume of the power units. We as Mercedes are committed to this development. There The challenge is to develop something stronger without losing horsepower."
