Mercedes waiting for new diffuser material

At the Hungarian Grand Prix, Mercedes was unable to fully exploit the potential of the new diffuser due to overheating problems caused by the engine's exhaust fumes.

The exhaust pipes direct their flow inside the blown diffuser, but the excessive heat generated in the area deformed the materials and in particular the bottom.

Rosberg and Schumacher noticed the big difference that the deformation caused to the car in terms of ride and balance: “The car looked different. It changed between the exit and the return to the pits."

Mercedes turned to Pyromeral, a French company specialized in the production of heat-resistant material, but the compound, called Pyrosic, did not satisfy the German technicians who are now, as confirmed by Ross Brawn himself, looking for a different material.
