F1, Mercedes has the loudest car of 2011

The German newspaper Bild am Sonntag came to this conclusion after measuring the noise produced by the engines during the recent Monegasque GP.

The W02 reached 127.8 decibels, above the human pain threshold, almost the same level as a military plane taking off.
Renault is second with 127.5 decibels, followed by McLaren-Mercedes (127.3) and Red Bull-Renault (127.1). Virgin-Cosworth is last with 125.9 decibels.

The noise of the current V8s is one of the strong points of Bernie Ecclestone's criticism of the 4-cylinder turbo, and on Friday the FIA itself declared that the introduction of the new engines could be postponed.
