Mercedes | GP Baku, Hamilton: “I thought I was fighting for the first two rows”
"I struggled to get the tyres to work," admitted the English champion
The bad day of the Mercedes closes with the seventh place of Hamilton. The English champion struggled with his W15, car that evidently did not find itself comfortable in the conditions that arose in qualifying Baku. We are on a track where recovering is not so complicated, but as also said by Russell, being able to play for the victory will be particularly complicated in normal conditions. The key will be tyre management, for a race that should be a one-stopper.
“Disappointing Qualifications – Hamilton said. Yesterday was a good day, I thought we could have fought for the first two rows, but I struggled to get the tyres to work, and that’s the point. We’ll try to understand why, hopefully we can improve. The goal is to make progress tomorrow and I’m confident: it’s not always easy to come back here, but we have a slightly different tyre strategy to the others, and that could help us. We need to take care of the tyres, because it’s easy to suffer with the rears. Hopefully we’ll have a better day than today.”
