British media, it would cost Alonso 30 million to break his contract with McLaren

Day after day, the rumors grow that Fernando Alonso is the number one candidate to fill the Mercedes seat vacated by Nico Rosberg. Toto Wolff spoke precisely about the Spanish double world champion who, in an interview given to Sky Sports UK, did not close the door to a possible arrival of the Oviedo driver at the Brackley court.

"Among the various options available to us, there is also that of Fernando. We can't help but consider a driver like him,” Wolff said.

According to rumors coming from the British media, interrupting Alonso's contract with McLaren (with which he is linked until 2018) would cost up to 30 million euros. Although, according to those in the know, there would be no shortage of clauses that would allow the Spaniard to free himself before the natural expiration of the contract with the Woking team.

Should Mercedes fail to hire Alonso, the other candidates ready to replace Rosberg are essentially two: Pascal Wehrlein (owned by Mercedes itself) and Valtteri Bottas, whose manager is Toto Wolff.
