McLaren, Vandoorne will also race in Super Formula
In 2016, the Belgian driver will not limit himself to the role of Woking's third driver
Stoffel Vandoorne doesn't stop; the Belgian McLaren driver, third driver in 2016 and in the team's hierarchy behind Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button, will combine his commitment in the Circus with his role as a starter in the Japanese Super Formula championship, a preparatory Japanese category historically known as Formula Nippon. The announcement was made by McLaren-Honda itself.
The Belgian talent, who dominated the GP2015 championship in 2, will therefore continue to learn his skills on the Dallara SF14s which will battle in eight seasonal events starting from 24 April in Suzuka. Vandoorne will race for the Docomo team, obviously powered by Honda like McLaren. The Formula Nippon cars deliver a power of almost 600 horsepower and are considered, together with the GP2, among the best performing single-seaters of those preceding Formula 1.
