McLaren, Ron Dennis: “This regulation is frustrating”
According to Dennis, the current rules undermine any possibility of a comeback
The president of McLaren has lashed out harshly against the current technical regulation, which in his opinion is unnecessarily expensive and does not allow the teams to really close the gap on the track.
“Everything they thought of to reduce costs actually increased them - attacked the CEO of McLaren - A regulation that makes you spend money endlessly on engine bench testing is frustrating. I would like to go around the track, have tests, have the freedom to work with the wind tunnel and CFD (computer simulations). To close the gap we would need maximum freedom of development, but instead our hands are tied. People mistakenly think that engines are only developed when tokens are spent; but is not so. The engineers spend money and energy away from the circuits, work on the engines and decide to spend the tokens only when the news gives feedback. It's a race for the lifespan of the engine which has cost a lot, we've moved forward too quickly and we should take a step back."
