McLaren, Perez: “Starting with the mediums could be a wild card”

Double face for McLaren on Saturday afternoon in hot Budapest. Inside the group of the best with Perez, out instead with Button.

“I have to thank the guys in the garage for the incredible work between FP3 and qualifying. The accident was significant, but they managed to fix the car without me losing time on the track – the consideration of Sergio, 3rd and 9th – At the beginning of Q1 I still didn't feel comfortable, that's why I risked being eliminated. In Q2 I did some good laps and so I entered Q3. Given the pace we had, knowing we couldn't aim for fives, we set the averages which I believe will work in our favor tomorrow. All in all it's a good position to start from and I think the changes to the car will bear fruit."

“As soon as I put fresh tires on I have difficulties with the front of the car. On the one hand it is positive because it means that the downforce at the rear has increased, but on the other it makes the car complicated to control, so I hope that the situation improves during the race - the evaluation of Jenson, 9th and 13th –  I'm quite disappointed, I expected something more."

“With Checo we qualified where we expected by opting for the mediums which are about a second and a half slower than the softs. However, it was a decision taken from a race perspective considering that the soft tires don't last very long. As for Jenson, things did not go as planned and his time was not sufficient to access the final tranche - he explained Martin Whitmarsh – Tomorrow will be a long and hot day, we hope for a nice grand prix for everyone."
