McLaren, Neale: “We will continue to develop the MP4-30”

The CEO of the English team has explained why McLaren must still focus on 2015

McLaren, Neale: “We will continue to develop the MP4-30”

McLaren will continue to work hard on the MP4-30, without abandoning the 2015 single-seater in favor of the 2016 project. This was announced by the CEO Jonathan Neale, who explained why it would be inconvenient to interrupt the development of the current single-seater.

Neale indirectly responded to his pilots, who have differing opinions on the point. For Ferdinand Alonso Woking should already focus on 2016, using the rest of the World Cup as a big test. Jenson Button, instead, he “asked” the Macca a substantial increase in performance. The choice seems to have fallen on the latter option, given that finding performance and at the same time improving integration with the (very fragile) Honda PU is a fundamental and unlikely to be postponed objective.

According to Neale, given the regulatory stability in 2016, McLaren must continue to push hard with this car, as many planned updates can also be used next year:

“It is too early to consider abandoning development of the MP4-30. We have to work day and night to “find ourselves” in the downhill stretch next year. Next year's rules will be more or less the same, so we need to improve now, bringing some new solutions to the future single-seater. Another issue is 2017, when many things could change. There we will have to be good at taking advantage of the changes."
