McLaren, Hamilton: “The Spa track was incredibly wet today”

"Tomorrow will be challenging, but everyone is in the same boat"

The McLaren drivers also did not record any timed laps in the second free practice of the Belgian Grand Prix at the Spa circuit due to rain. Hamilton and Button only limited themselves to an exercise on starting from the pits.

Lewis Hamilton – no time: “It was incredibly wet today – there were a lot of streams running across the track and a lot of hydroplaning, so you had to be very careful out there. There's no real advantage that can be gained by pushing the car, but there are always things we can learn, so we did a couple of installation laps to test the effects of the improvements we've brought for this race and see how the tires worked in the wet. Tomorrow will be challenging, but everyone is in the same boat – it's no joke. If it dries out, the track will be green in the morning, and you have to set up the car during a couple of runs in Free Practice 3. However, it's good to be back on track. A Formula 1 car is always fun to drive, even if there was snow, so I enjoyed every lap I completed.”

Jenson Button – no time: “We did a couple of installation laps, but this afternoon was extremely wet – the only reason we went out in FP2 was to do some practice for our starts. We hope that conditions will improve so we can get to work tomorrow.”
