McLaren, Button: “A good feeling with the new package”

"A good feeling with the new updates"

Today was Jenson Button's last day in the car before Melbourne and, fittingly, he carried out his assessment of the new race package due for Australia later this month.

The morning was successfully spent installing and understanding the new aerodynamic components, but then the test was interrupted by a hydraulic problem which kept the car in the garage until after the lunch break.

The day was further disrupted by rain in the afternoon – so today some activities have been postponed until tomorrow and will be led by Lewis Hamilton.

Jenson Button said:

“When new parts come in, you want to go out and put a lot of revs on in order to compare them to what you had previously – but we weren't able to do that today. We had a hydraulic problem in the morning, which meant we didn't do much on the track.”

“So it wasn't an easy morning – and then we didn't do much in the afternoon because of the rain. We put in a couple of good laps, but we couldn't do any work on the set-up.”

“It was good to ride with the new package, and I have a good feeling, but I need to work on it more to find the right balance.”

“Hopefully Lewis will be able to do quite a few laps tomorrow.”
