McLaren, Boullier: “In Austin a result that reflects our real potential”
In Austin, McLaren put the dull performance in Suzuka behind them
The US GP was more than positive for McLaren-Honda. In addition to Fernando Alonso's sensational fifth place, Jenson Button, who started nineteenth, also achieved a great comeback in ninth. McLaren left the Circuit of the Americas with twelve "heavy" points, useful for securing sixth place in the Constructors' standings. Moderate satisfaction for team principal Eric Boullier, according to whom the MP4-31 remains a points-scoring car and not the pale counterpart seen at Suzuka.
“We suffer a lot in the fast corners and do well in the slow ones. In Japan we didn't find the right structure, suffering extremelyor - Boullier told Autosport - In Austin we were protagonists of a good race and if we look at the last GPs we realize that our real position is this, in the points, and not the one seen in Suzuka. The Japanese GP was an unfortunate episode, but in America we went beyond our expectations, because we know that our real position is around eighth place. Rather than thinking now about how to improve this car, we want to understand how to make the next one fast in all conditions, taking advantage of the new rules."
