McLaren, Alonso immediately out with PU failure: "We knew we had a problem"

This time no points for McLaren-Honda, which after Austin found only a fourteenth place in Mexico City with Jenson Button, while Fernando Alonso he was forced to retire on the first lap due to an unresolved problem with the hybrid part of the Honda V6.

No surprises for Nando, who already knew he had problems with his MP4-30: “We knew we had a problem with the MGU-H, we had discovered it in the morning and there was no time to replace the part - Alonso explained - We had two alternatives: to leave or not to leave. We still chose to race, trying to do as much as we could, it was a sign of respect towards these incredible Mexican fans. I wanted to go to the grid and take part in the GP. Even though it was just one lap of the race, we tried. They were two very tiring races and it's a shame not to have managed to collect even one championship point. Now we need to recharge our batteries before the last two races, let's look ahead and leave the disappointment behind us."

Definitely a more linear race for Jenson Button who tried to get into the points but didn't have the right speed to do it: "The Mexican fans should be very proud of themselves, they were incredible – declared the Englishman – However, I don't have much to say about my race. The other single-seaters were too much faster than us on the straight, but we made up some ground in the more driven sector of the track. However, I believe that our engine paid more than the others for the altitude of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, I believe that we paid more horsepower than the competition".
