Mattiacci: “We knew it would be a difficult race for Ferrari”

A sixth place with Fernando Alonso and a tenth with Kimi Raikkonen. This is Ferrari's meager result at the Canadian GP. A result that the Cavallino were expecting since the Montreal circuit was already on paper not suited to the characteristics of the F14-T.

“Even before arriving in Montreal we knew that today would be a difficult race, because this is a track that does not enhance the characteristics of our car” commented the head of Ferrari Sports Management, Marco Mattiacci. “We are certainly not satisfied with the final result, far from it, but the improvement in performance recorded during the weekend shows that to obtain the maximum potential from our package we must insist on the areas in which our rivals manage to make the difference. Today we saw how much of an endurance race it was for many teams in terms of reliability and our main rivals were able to exploit the opportunity granted by Mercedes better than anyone else. My congratulations go to Ricciardo for his first career victory. For the future I cannot make predictions, but only ask the team for strong self-criticism and maximum commitment and cohesion to put our riders in a position to be able to fight for more ambitious results."

“Today's race was conditioned by the degradation of the tires and - more generally - by the greater attention paid to all the parameters stressed by the temperatures, which were particularly high as expected” added Pat Fry. “It wasn't easy at the beginning because we started from behind and here it's almost impossible to overtake. The safety car that came on on the first lap limited the effects of fuel consumption, and then in the second stint on a clean track the pace improved, although it was still difficult to recover positions. Fernando's first stop allowed him to pass Vergne's Toro Rosso, while Kimi lost time behind Kvyat, but eventually managed to pass. In the final stint the group in front regrouped and our pace was very good with Fernando, but it was almost impossible to overtake. We have made some improvements to the F14 T and although this track has not given the expected results, we will continue to work on developments and on this front our approach to the next races will not change."
