Mattiacci: “Ferrari needs Raikkonen for 2015”
The team principal dismisses the rumors of a new farewell for the Finn
Marco Mattiacci has responded to rumors of Kimi Raikkonen leaving Ferrari again at the end of the season. Fernando Alonso declared at Hockenheim that Ferrari can currently count on only one car for the Constructors' World Championship, his, suggesting that he wants a more competitive teammate for 2015. But Mattiacci denied the hypothesis of a new divorce from Raikkonen.
To those who pointed out that Alonso has so far beaten Raikkonen 10 to zero he replied: “This is not football. In F1 we don't talk in these terms. Yes, we want better results, but Kimi is the driver Ferrari needs for next year” commented Mattiacci.
“We believe in him, he is a world champion, he is part of our present and our future” he added.
That doesn't mean Ferrari doesn't have big changes planned for 2015, including a substantial evolution of the turbo V6 engine as well as the introduction of the first car designed entirely by James Allison.
“Allison is working really hard for next year,” a team source told Spanish newspaper AS. “It will be his first car for us and we have high hopes.”
