Massa: “Always stronger race after race”

"The results will come" according to the Brazilian from Ferrari

Massa: “Always stronger race after race”

On what the weather forecast indicated as the only day without rain during the British Grand Prix weekend, Felipe Massa met with journalists in the Scuderia Ferrari hospitality area in the afternoon. The weather conditions were, inevitably, the initial topic. “Last year we started in the rain, then the track dried out and I finished in fifth position. The goal this year is therefore to fight for a podium,” said Felipe.

“It's something I really want because I've never been on the podium in this race. Every year there is a chance of rain in these parts. Which means that you must always be ready to react quickly to any situation that arises. Even more so this year, with such small gaps between many cars. However, I really enjoy racing on this track, and I'm looking forward to having a good race, whatever the conditions."

To the "traditional" questions about his future, the Brazilian driver responded by giving a quick summary of his latest races. “The only thing I know and what interests me is getting results, seizing that final position within my reach,” he said. “It wasn't like that in the last race, but in Valencia I was very happy with the car and I was very strong. But it must also be said that I wasn't very lucky, with a problem with the bottom of my car starting from the seventh lap, which caused me to lose a lot of downforce and which cost me a second per lap. Then it was the turn of a driver who didn't see my car, hitting it! I was so confident and happy with the car that, before the start, I was convinced I would fight for a place on the podium. So if we can get everything going right, then the results will come, and those results will make things easier for the future. I'm still continuing my journey of understanding this year's car. The situation started to improve in Monaco, where we managed to finish the race where we should have. That wasn't the case in Canada, in terms of results, even though we were very strong there too. I did a stupid spin, which I still don't understand, as I wasn't trying to brake later than usual. Then it was Valencia's turn where a good result was within my reach. And it's still possible because the car is improving and I feel stronger race after race."

For obvious reasons, considering that the Brazilian driver had suffered head injuries in the accident at the Hungaroring in 2009, the Ferrari driver was asked for a comment on the terrible accident that struck Maria De Villota two days ago. “She and her family have all my support, because I experienced a similar situation, but thank God there were no other consequences in my case,” commented Felipe. “Unfortunately Maria lost an eye. I hope you can still make a full recovery and live your life in the best way possible. I can't comment further because I have no more information than anyone else about what happened. The important thing is that the exact cause of his accident is established, I think the FIA needs to find out to ensure that all test sessions are carried out in maximum safety conditions. In the case of my accident, recovery was not always easy. I was at home and eager to get back into the single-seater and go racing again. Even though I felt good, I knew I needed to recover, and in such a situation, having a positive attitude always helps. I think that's why he recovered faster than expected."
