Massa and Alonso: “Ferrari has improved a lot in recent races”

The Spaniard dedicates his pole position to Maria De Villota

Massa and Alonso: “Ferrari has improved a lot in recent races”

It's a Felipe Massa who hasn't been seen for a long time who comments on his fifth place in qualifying at the British GP. At Silverstone Ferrari achieved a podium with Fernando Alonso, but still fought until the end even with the Brazilian.

“It's a good result for the team, especially considering that, at the time of the red flag, both Fernando and I were out of Q3”, explained the Ferrari driver. “I think the interruption in Q2 was right, in fact perhaps it could have happened a little earlier: it's incredible how much aquaplaning there was on the straights at that moment. Then the Federation did an excellent job in having the track arranged in such a way as to make it practicable in such a way as to allow all spectators to be offered a show worthy of their passion. We did a good job on the restart in the last laps of Q2 and in Q3 I was always fighting for pole position but I was losing time right at the last corner, where I locked the rear wheels. Fifth place is still a placement that satisfies me.".

It is a fact that Ferrari can beat Red Bull at least in the wet, as demonstrated by today's pole, demonstrating a truly remarkable increase in performance. On this Massa agrees: “I think I will be competitive tomorrow also because the car works well on a track like this. From Canada onwards the F2012 has improved a lot and we can see the fruits of this in terms of results.", commented. Fernando Alonso, on the other hand, rereads his pole position at Silverstone with a cool head, dedicating it to a person who is suffering a lot at the moment: Marussia test driver Maria De Villota. “I want to dedicate this pole position to Maria de Villota, who is experiencing a particularly difficult moment. We all feel some sadness these days and are close to her and her family. However, it was a surprise pole because in conditions like these you never know what can happen. This morning in the dry the car was very good but in the wet everything could have been different, even if the F2012 proved that it wasn't bad even in the rain, thinking about Malaysia and the Mugello tests".

The Asturian explains the succession of circumstances that led him to pole: a combination of skill, sixth sense and luck, the same luck that always smiles on champions. “This afternoon we had to try to be in the right place at the right time and with the right tires and, to achieve this, we also needed a bit of luck. For once we had it, like in the spin at the start of Q2 or when I barely managed to get through to Q3 after the stoppage: on the last lap I had a car in front and the visibility was really precarious and then there were There were yellow flags in the last corners but in the end I managed to qualify for the next stage. Today's is an important pole, even if we know that it came in particular conditions. We still have to get one in the dry to be able to say we have closed the gap to the best. Tomorrow I hope for a boring race, for once I start in front of everyone!”, the Ferrari driver concluded jokingly.
