Martin Whitmarsh: “Heart-pounding championship”

Martin Whitmarsh, team boss of McLaren, offers fans his personal comment on this F1 championship which is about to end, calling it "epic".

One of the best world championships ever staged: five races to go; five drivers – Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber and Jenson Button – competing for a world title.

Whitmarsh has absolutely no desire to transform himself into the master father of his stable, but he offers us an impartial vision of this great battle, which as he says "for those who love this sport is like the nectar of the Gods".

“This is an epic world championship. I'm not exaggerating when I say that in this year some of the best drivers in the history of the sport are in F1. It was immediately clear that it would be a three-way fight between us (McLaren), Red Bull and Ferrari.

Our opponents started really strong; we didn't do too well, but we managed to recover.

Now each team must concentrate on each race thinking about the final objective and there may be grand prix more favorable to one or the other: Red Bull is very strong on street circuits; Ferrari was phenomenal in Monza and we just have to think about earning as many points as possible precisely on those tracks that are not congenial to us.

This season will be remembered in the annals of F1 as one of the highest levels of competitiveness ever and the teams that are fighting for the final victory should be proud to have been part of it."
