Manor, Wehrlein: “We need to improve tire management”

Pascal Wehrlein, sixteenth at the finish line in Melbourne, explained how one of the main problems of the Mercedes-powered Manor is the behavior of the tyres, which suffer too high degradation on the English single-seater.

If Manor wants to improve, it must quickly resolve its problems in managing the Pirellis, because the MRT05 at Albert Park proved to "eat" the Italian tires too quickly, effectively preventing the riders from maintaining a constant pace.

“The start in Melbourne was excellent, for being my first race it was an incredible start. As long as the tires held up we were very competitive, then we suffered too much from the degradation of the compounds, much more than the other single-seaters on the track - thus the young Pascal Wehrlein at Motorsport –  Then I put new tires on and the pace was good again, but unfortunately for us we can only use the tires for a few laps, because they wear out too quickly. This is a flaw that we need to work on and that needs to be resolved quickly; we need to make the compounds last longer. We need to be kinder to the tyres; we'll find a solution, I think it could also be a set-up problem, but overall I'm confident because the race pace with the new tire was very good."
