Mallya: “Force India will soon be among the big names too”

Vijay Mallya, owner of Force India, is convinced that his team will soon be able to fight for prestigious results, like those obtained by Sauber and Williams.

Force India did not do badly in these first six races of the F1 season but did not go beyond two seventh places, both obtained with Paul Di Resta. However, team boss Mallya says it is only a matter of time before they can compete with the more competitive cars. The key to reaching this goal will be tire management, which they are working on with great intensity. “I think this unpredictability in current F1 is largely due to the tyres, and has led to us seeing some fun races. That's why we are working particularly hard to understand the tires better to make sure we get the best out of them.", explained the Indian. “If we manage to find our weak point I hope we can enjoy important results in the races to come.”

Mallya explains how Force India is still a team that consistently scores points: “We have had six races in the season and we have 28 points, certainly a very strong start to the year,” he added. “Both drivers are doing what we expect of them and we are gaining some momentum, just like we did last year. Our car is clearly competitive and therefore it will depend on the drivers. I am very satisfied with how things went in Monaco with both cars in the points. It was our second double points finish of the season and the result brings us much closer to our closest competitors, Sauber and Williams. We are keen to close the gap further and I believe we have the pace to reach the same level as them as soon as possible.", the Indian billionaire closed.
