Maldonado at Lotus, the announcement would be imminent
Sources close to Lotus report that the Enstone team is ready to announce the hiring of Pastor Maldonado for the 2014 F1 season as Romain Grosjean's partner. Nico Hulkenberg was the team's preferred choice to replace Kimi Raikkonen, who moved to Ferrari.
But the German's hiring was linked to the arrival of new investors known as "Quantum Group". The agreement was postponed several times and the team, already in financial difficulty this year, decided to hire Maldonado who brings 35-40 million euros with PDVSA sponsorship.
Among other things, the Venezuelan sponsor is in conflict with Total, already the team's technical and commercial sponsor for years and linked to Renault and Grosjean. However, the two oil companies reportedly reached an agreement last week in Caracas to allow Lotus to display both logos in 2014.
