After touching each other at turn 13 during the last lap of the Spanish GP, the two Renault drivers were placed under investigation.
Having viewed and analyzed the images, the commissioners decreed the guilt of Magnussen which "with new soft tires he tried to undermine Jolyon Palmer, one position in front of him and on the medium compound, and forced him to go off the track."
Since this was an incident that occurred at the end of the race, the stewards could not help but inflict a 10 second penalty ex post on Kevin therefore relegated from 14th to 15th place.
The Dane also had two of the twelve points available from his license taken away.
