Lotus on track in Jerez with the 2014 car

Lotus is the latest team to take to the track for the first time with their 2014 car, the Lotus E22, today in Jerez, Spain.

The Enstone team skipped the first official pre-season test last month to have more time to complete its car. The work now seems finished and the team is doing a shakedown during the day for some promotional filming. Pastor Maldonado will be in the car and will be able to cover a maximum distance of 100km and will have to run on demonstration tyres. The Venezuelan wrote on Twitter: “Finally back to work on the track, a day of filming scheduled for today in Jerez. I can't wait to drive the E22.”

Renault will use this day to try to resolve its reliability problems with the new engine. Red Bull was only able to complete 21 laps in the official test, so thanks to Lotus it will be able to collect more useful data on the 2014 engine. It is not clear whether Lotus will release more images of the car today, but the team has released a teaser on YouTube that informs of an announcement that will be made at 17.00pm today.
