Lotus, Grosjean: “I would never have bet anything on the podium”

It is an unexpected result achieved by Romain Grosjean at the end of Indian GP and if they had told him the day before, he would never have believed it. Finishing on the third step of the podium is an excellent result, if it was then achieved after starting from 17th position on the grid it is truly a record. The pilot Lotus he took a risk with a one-bet strategy and was rewarded.

“Starting 17th, I didn't have high hopes and I wouldn't have bet anything, not even a peanut – declared Grosjean laughing -. The car was back to how I felt it on Friday and the pace we kept was exceptional."

“We used a very courageous strategy, also because we didn't know how long the tires could last and it paid off”, he continued.

On overtaking his teammate Kimi Raikkonen when there were a few laps to go before the end of the race in the fratricidal fight which ultimately saw the French driver prevail, he cut it short: “Kimi was in trouble, so I went outside and he didn't see me”.

The tires were now worn out for the Finn who returned to the pits with two laps to go and eventually finished seventh.

“What matters is that we scored valuable points, finished the race on the podium and now we are positive in view of the next races”, concluded Grosjean.
