Lotus, Grosjean: “The rumors about the sale to Renault are holding us back”
The Genevan driver is convinced that uncertainty about the future is slowing down the Enstone team
That Lotus is in advanced negotiations with the Renault for the sale of the team - which would then be a deja vu given that Regiè's return to Enstone would be (yet another) return – it is common knowledge and has been known for some time. The first driver of the English team, Romain Grosjean, however, emphasized the inconvenience that the long negotiation is creating within the team, blaming too many financial items for a general slowdown in the development of the work. The Lotus E23 (among other things powered by Mercedes and not Renault) is a valid single-seater, which however fails to express its maximum potential.
Grosjean, fresh from a troubled but at the same time positive seventh place in Hungary, summarized his idea on the issue as follows:
“Unfortunately, development is not as incisive as we would like. Not for the people who work in the factory, nor for the ideas, but because it is difficult to have investments from the owners when there is so much uncertainty about the near future. However, the technicians work very well with the available resources. We are now living in this situation of waiting and I hope for the sake of the team to find out more soon, so as to be able to make steps forward again. It's a shame not to be able to accelerate development when the basis is clearly excellent, a big step forward compared to the 2014 single-seater. On paper we know where to intervene, we just need to transform the projects into performance in the car."
