Liuzzi still aims for a future in F1
The Italian hopes to return to the premier category
Vitantonio Liuzzi he admits his aim is still to compete in F1 despite not having had a seat this season.
The Italian led for theHRT in 2011, and was replaced by Pedro de la Rosa this year as the team wanted to strengthen its “Spanish” image. After the arrival of Narain Karthikeyan, the Italian had been demoted to the role of third driver, however Liuzzi preferred to go and compete in Superstars Series, opening the season with a podium and a victory in the inaugural race in Monza.
Despite the glories of the new category however, the Italian has declared that his goal is to return to F1, and that he likes to compete in other categories while he is away from the paddock.
“I certainly miss F1 because it is the greatest competition for those who have a career in motorsport, I would certainly like to return in the future. From another point of view, however, I am happy to be here, it is another chapter in my career and I am happy to be able to prove to myself that I am at a high level in the Superstar Series” declared Liuzzi.
“If I had the chance to return to F1 during the season I would need to evaluate the situation carefully. I am still linked to the world of F1 as the third driver of HRT and consequently it is also a priority for me, but if an opportunity were to come I would have to think about it and we never know what can happen to us in the future.”
“The Superstars Series is a dream that I am trying to realize with Mercedes and CAAL Racing. I believe a driver needs to be versatile if he wants to get the most out of the sport. This is also a challenge for myself because I show that I can make a difference in the world of touring cars."
