The possibility of more races per season

Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner was one of many team principals involved in a question and answer session at the Middle East Motor Sport Business Forum held before the start of the Bahrain weekend.
In addition to debating new rules for F1 and energy recovery systems, a topic of great attention was also the number of races that will have to be held each year.

In this regard, Christian believes that they can increase in number, provided that certain conditions are respected. “It is important to preserve the important historical races – he said – but we must also turn to new markets and new circuits. There is room for new entries and the calendar allows it. 20 races is a possible figure, provided that new restrictions are introduced regarding private tests and we avoid having too many consecutive races, one week after the other."

Speaking of the race in Bahrain in 2008, Christian expects the team to take a further step forward, after the two points scored in Malaysia. “Last year, we had a good race here in Bahrain – he recalled – so we hope to capitalize on it this year, to repeat ourselves from the start and do even better, also starting from our performance two weeks ago in Sepang. In the group we find ourselves in, which also includes Renault, Toyota and Williams, the fight is extremely close, and BMW is not too far away either."

Bahrain was the first country to host the Motorsport Business Forum outside of Monte Carlo, its traditional home. Next year, one is scheduled to be organized in Malaysia.
