Report cards from the Abu Dhabi GP

Report cards from the Abu Dhabi GP

Sebastian Vettel – 10 – We don't give him praise just because he wasn't perfect in qualifying and free practice, but in reality it's just a question of details. Besides, what can we say about those who won the World Cup?

Mark Webber – 9 – He won't be an extraterrestrial like his teammate, but there are plenty of drivers like that. And the near end of this season makes us regret it more and more. His start wasn't perfect, but he knows how to redeem himself and creates a comeback as a protagonist which allows him to finish second, despite being distant from the fresh world champion. However, we like it anyway.

Romain Grosjean – 8 – This time the podium eludes him due to a one-stop strategy that doesn't bear fruit. Fourth place does not erase the good things done by a driver who seems to have truly reached maturity. To the delight of Lotus.

Kimi Raikkonen – sv – Iceman's race doesn't last long. The weekend isn't the best and he does his best to make it so, but at Lotus it's not like they're treating him with kid gloves and given what Kimi has done so far, we don't think he deserves it.

Nico Rosberg – 8.5 – Second consecutive podium, second time keeping Hamilton behind. In Mercedes they take notes and thank Nico who "keeps the business going"...

Lewis Hamilton – 6- – A poor pass precisely because he finished the race in the points, but it's not the Hamilton we want to see. Apathetic, without bite, not very proactive and not very competitive, perpetually behind his teammate and not just him... He has it all. Try it again Lewis.

Fernando Alonso – 7 – We can't give the Ferrari driver more. He fights for a fifth place, but this is not what we expected from him and Ferrari. The comeback is good - the result of the usual forgettable qualifying sessions -, the careful management of the tires is good, the grit and courage are good, especially in the overtaking at Vergne where he risks a lot, but in the end he still finishes fifth. Positive notes: the good conditions despite the flight on the curb when overtaking the Toro Rosso driver and the points gained which still keep the fight alive in the constructors' classification.

Felipe Massa – 6 – It starts off well but ends... badly. Of course, eighth is better than nothing, it's a shame that in the first part of the race it makes you dream and hope, only to then "relax" in the second. He brings home a few points, but more is needed to fight for the constructors' championship.

Paul di Resta – 8 – Having started 11th, he finished sixth to general applause. A one-stop strategy, perfect tire management and a driver who knows and can do well. Today he proves it and the mix is a winning one.

Adrian Sutil – 6 – He also finishes in the top ten. He starts further back than his teammate, but finishes in tenth place which can still satisfy Force India. Now the objective is to finish the season in the best possible way, maintaining sixth place in the constructors' standings, but this now seems a certain result.

Sergio Perez – 6 – McLaren is grateful for the only point gained over the weekend. The Mexican driver smiles: he won the battle for the second time in a row with his teammate and is earning reconfirmation.

Jenson Button – 5 – A 12th place in Abu Dhabi and a weekend to forget. Forced to return for having damaged the wing at the start of the race, the race is all uphill for the British driver who for the second weekend in a row finishes outside the points zone, furthermore behind Maldonado's Williams, certainly not a thunderbolt of war . Hats off to the Venezuelan, a little less to the 2009 world champion.

Pastor Maldonado – 6- – Sooner or later Pastor will make it into the top ten. He finishes 11th, still without points, but does what he can and gets the most out of the car available, always keeping his teammate behind - and by a lot Valtteri Bottas (5). Could it be because of the rumors of a move to Lotus? Could it be that, sponsors aside, he wants to convince the higher-ups of his commitment? We'll see what happens.

Daniel Ricciardo, Jean-Eric Vergne – 4.5 – This time not even Ricciardo is saved and saves Toro Rosso's weekend.

Esteban Gutierrez, Nico Hulkenberg – 5.5 – A step back for Sauber in Abu Dhabi, after the last positive weekends, especially regarding Hulkenberg. The German, after qualifying, was hoping for a top ten finish. Disappointed hope, but sometimes it happens.

Giedo van der Garde, Charles Pic – 6 – In the fight between the small teams they achieved their objective, keeping Marussia behind. And finally Pic also crosses the finish line.

Jules Bianchi, Max Chilton – 5 – Today wasn't exactly a day. At the end of the race the two riders complained about the lack of pace and balance. Marussia is still tenth in the constructors' standings, but we expect to see the announced progress in the final races.
