Lauda rules out replacing Ecclestone at the helm of F1
The Austrian confirms his commitment to Mercedes
di Staff26 May, 2014
Niki Lauda has denied being the one to replace Bernie Ecclestone at the helm of F1. Embroiled in a corruption scandal, Ecclestone named Lauda on Friday in Monaco as his possible successor.
But the Austrian did not agree: “No, I will not be the new boss of F1,” he told the Bild newspaper. “I have a job at Mercedes with a contract that also includes 2017. In any case, I don't think about things that won't happen,” declared Lauda.
When Lauda's contract with Mercedes expires, Ecclestone will be 87 years old: “I was never asked if I was interested in becoming Bernie's successor. At this point you might as well ask me if I want to go to the moon."
