Lauda: “Brawn is number 1 in Mercedes”
The Brackley team hopes that the Englishman decides to stay
After Ross Brawn's veiled threats to abandon Mercedes, the president of the star team, Niki Lauda, declared that the Englishman is still number 1 in Brackley.
After the rumors of Brawn's possible move to Honda and therefore to McLaren from 2015, the Englishman had declared that he wanted certainties about his role in Mercedes.
“I have to be sure that if I stay I will be the point of reference” Brawn declared to Sky. With Paddy Lowe tipped as his possible successor at the top of the team, Lauda has instead declared that Mercedes wants Brawn to stay.
“We had some small problems in the team in the past but now everything is resolved,” the Austrian told the Mirror. “It's all finalized between him and Paddy and everyone else. Ross is number 1. I tried to convince him to stay. Now the decision is up to him. I would say the probability of him staying is 50%."
