Williams hopes to improve this season finale thanks to new updates

Williams will evaluate a new front wing and diffuser in free practice at the Singapore Grand Prix on Friday, hoping to improve its performance.

The team is currently ninth in the constructors' championship, with only 5 championship points since the start of the season.

Technical director Sam Michael, who will leave the team after Singapore for a new role as sporting director at McLaren from 2012, said Williams was continuing to push with developments to try to get out of its current situation.

“We have an updated diffuser and a new front wing,” he said. “We'll try them both on Friday.”

Pastor Maldonado was able to climb up to sixth position in the last race in Monza after a good start and after avoiding the accident at the first corner. But his pace wasn't strong enough to maintain that position and he finished in 11th place. He hopes the revised car will allow him to be more competitive in Singapore – especially as he has a reputation as a street circuit specialist.

“I really like street circuits and so I think I can be fast there,” Maldonado said.

“We have some updates for this race that we hope will be a big improvement and help us improve on our last result.”
