The Renault R28 explained by the technical managers

The new R28, which ran for the first time last week in Valencia, already has 1500 km under its belt and an admirable reliability, considering that it already incorporated the new electronics and the gearbox compliant with the 2008 rules. ' arose from a new philosophy compared to the previous one, in order to optimize the use of Bridgestone tyres, in particular thanks to the adoption of the "zero-keel" type front suspension attachment.

Bob Bell, Technical Director:
“By our standards, 2007 was a miserable year. For this season, internal and external expectations are greater and this requires us to provide the drivers with a competitive car. We've put last year's design issues behind us and reconsidered the issues in their entirety. The team pushed hard in all areas, especially aerodynamics. The front wing is completely new and so are the suspensions, but the rear has also been profoundly revised, without forgetting the fundamentals. In the first test, the car ran reliably and made encouraging progress in terms of performance. We are confident that the improvements observed in the wind tunnel can also be found on the track."

Rob White, Deputy Managing Director (Engine)
“The transaction to the new SECU represented a large workload, yet to be completed. This aspect in itself represents the biggest innovation of the season, but there are also new software tools and programs that have accompanied it. We've had to adapt to all of this and learn how to make the most of it. Although the regulation does not give development margins for the engine, a lot of work still remains to be done on reliability. This type of V8 remains very complex and sophisticated and we must carefully monitor the quality of the components and worry about how it is used inside the car. We are determined to return to the top and we have worked tirelessly on this for many months."
