Renault confirms Grosjean, Piquet fired

Renault has confirmed that Romain Grosjean will play the rest of the season with the French team which also made official the dismissal of Nelson Piquet Jr. The announcement came after the International Court of Appeal reviewed the sanction against Renault , allowing the French team to participate in the European GP.

Grosjean, Renault's official test driver and reserve driver, experienced mixed fortunes in GP2 last year, taking two victories but being involved in numerous accidents.

Flavio Briatore, however, said he is confident that Grosjean can demonstrate his talent.

“We are happy to give Romain the chance to race for the team. He is an excellent young talent and we expect him to demonstrate his capabilities alongside Fernando, we will have an aggressive approach in the second part of the season. We also want to thank Nelson for his contribution during his time with us and we wish him the best for the future" concluded Briatore.

"I'm really proud that the Renault team is giving me the chance to become a starter. I can't wait to drive the R29 and help the team achieve the best possible results. It's also an honor to be Fernando's teammate and debuting in Formula 1 alongside a two-time world champion is extremely motivating" said Grosjean.

Lucas di Grassi will now take on the role of official reserve for Renault.
